Recovering Catholicism

As a twenty-first century Catholic, I am often baffled by the world I live in. In my twenties, I rarely see people my age at mass, much less living out the word of God in the “real world”…don’t get me wrong, I’m not perfect. After all, church is for sinners. The thing is, it really is simple, as simple as one word: agape. Unconditional love. America tells me there’s no such thing. It tells me that I have to pave my own way to success, and that I must be relentless in my pursuit. Relentless faith, however, is snickered at. Does that sound like love? As I await the appointment of the new pope, I feel like I’m stuck in a tornado. Everybody thinks that they know what we need. In another area of my life I was exposed to a great philosophy, “our common welfare should come first”. Perhaps…
